Our History
Tibetan Aid Project
Founded by Tibetan lama Tarthang Tulku, Tibetan Aid Project protects Tibet's heritage after the destruction of 95% of its texts, art, monasteries, colleges, and libraries. The project has distributed nearly 6 million texts to the Tibetan community, making it one of the largest free text distributions in history.
Our work supports an endangered language, makes education accessible to women and lay people, and protects a culture and wisdom tradition that has greatly enriched Western mental health fields and wellness practices in recent decades.
Since 1969, Tibetan Aid Project has operated as a volunteer-driven organization, fulfilling its vital mission for over five decades through the unwavering dedication of its volunteer staff and the generous support of its donors and advocates.
Taste & Tribute
Inspired by chef Laurent Manrique's interest in Tibetan culture, Taste and Tribute Benefit Gala began in 2001. Held for many years at the Four Seasons in San Francisco with acclaimed Michelin-rated chefs, the event was suspended during the 2020 pandemic.
Reimagined in 2023, Taste and Tribute now takes place as a select gathering at the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley. The event continues its mission with an intimate group of 60-70 guests, showcasing skilled local chefs who bring a community-focused approach to the culinary experience. While Laurent Manrique has stepped down as Lead Chef, he remains an Honorary Chair. We invite your support for this year's event.
